PAINT RUINS YOUR ACOUSTIC CEILINGS!
Until now, standard latex paints have been used in an effort to improve the appearance of old acoustic ceilings. What many people do not know is that paint actually ruins acoustic ceilings! Paint seals the tiles, creating a hard surface that reflects sound. This ruins the acoustic properties of acoustic ceiling tiles! Paint also ‘glues’ the ceiling tile to the grid it lays on, making it impossible to service equipment above the ceiling without having to completely break or cut out the tile! Acoustic tiles are also fire retardant, and usually rated by UL. When you paint the tiles, the fire rating of the tile is ruined. On top of all this, paint emits high amounts of VOC’s after it is applied, which is the cause of that new paint smell. Many people find this smell offensive, and some can even have allergic reactions to the high VOC’s!
