Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) panels are common fixtures in commercial kitchens because they are designed to repel stains, bacteria, mold, and mildew growth. These panels are also favored in kitchen environments because they tend to be very durable and easy to install on ceilings and walls.

But as beneficial as FRP wall panels can be in a kitchen, they do have their limitations, one of the largest being that they are not immune to dust and dirt buildup. Thankfully, FRP wall panels are easily cleaned using basic cleaning agents. In this guide, you’ll learn how to clean FRP panels properly, so your kitchen workspace can pass health inspections with ease.

7 Steps to Cleaning FRP Panels

Materials Needed:

  • 2 buckets
  • Liquid soap
  • Latex gloves
  • Sponge or soft brush
  • Clean cloths or rags

Step 1: Fill one bucket with ½ gallon of warm water and add to it ½ cup of liquid soap. Put on the latex gloves and stir the liquid soap into the water using the sponge or soft scrub brush until suds are produced. Fill the second bucket with ½ gallon of warm water and set it aside.

Step 2: Move any kitchen equipment, furniture, or accessories far enough away from the FRP wall panels to allow adequate space for cleaning them.

Step 3: Dip the sponge or soft scrub brush in the soapy bucket and wring out the excess liquid. Start scrubbing one FRP wall panel section at a time using the soapy sponge or brush. Re-dip the sponge or scrub brush in the mixture as necessary and repeat the process of wringing out the excess liquid and scrubbing the panel until the wall panel section is clean. If the panel has stains that won’t come up using the soapy water, spray the stain with a general-purpose cleaner and let it stand for five to ten minutes, then scrub the stained area vigorously using the damp sponge or scrub brush.

Step 4: In the bucket with clean warm water, dip a clean cloth or rag and wring out the excess water. Use the damp cloth to wipe the FRP wall panel you just cleaned. This will remove the dirt that’s been lifted as well as any mixture residue. Depending on how dirty the wall was, you may need to rinse the cloth and repeat to thoroughly remove everything from the surface.

Step 5: Repeat Steps 3 and 4, progressing one panel at a time, until every FRP panel is cleaned.

Step 6: Use clean, dry cloths to remove any leftover moisture from the panels.

Step 7: Return the moved kitchen equipment, furniture, and accessories back to their original positions.
